Green Loans Giving Councils Access to Money-Saving LED Lights
Saving money is on the agenda for every council. Trimming excess spending is difficult when many unnecessary services have already been cut. Many councils are switching to LED street lights in order to save money and reduce their carbon footprint. But LED lights can be a large investment, which many councils lack funding for.
Green Loan Gives Flintshire Council Much-Needed Funds
Flintshire Council in Wales recently received over £3.13m in loans to roll out LED lights across the countryside and towns it looks after. The new LED lights are expected to significantly reduce the council’s power bills - by £360,000 a year. The move over to LED lights also aims to reduce carbon emissions by 1,387 tonnes annually.
Renewably and Responsibly Powered
The LED lights will be powered using renewable energy from renewable initiatives. This further cements the position of LED lights as the logical way for businesses and councils to save money. Becoming greener not only benefits the environment, it also demonstrates there is a demand for renewable power. The repayments of the loan will be used to invest in more energy projects and initiatives in the country.
Safety for the Locals
LED lights are not only money-saving, they also offer residents a safer travel experience. The white light emitted by LED lights provides better visibility and ensures that drivers have a better field of vision. Those walking or taking public transport will feel safer when walking along pavements in the evenings. Light uniformity is a huge advantage of LED lights, especially with the longevity of LED light bulbs. LED lights don’t flicker like traditional halogen bulbs - they will simply fade out slowly and gradually.
Longevity Means Less Time on Maintenance
The life of the LED light is many times that of the traditional halogen bulb. Not only does an LED light last longer, they are tough and can be roughly handled. This is perfect for outdoor lighting. As LED lights don’t need replacing as often, less maintenance means less money spent on fixing and replacing bulbs.
Nothing Is Wasted
LED lights waste little energy and light. As the light is directional, it means that very little light is going upwards. As a result, councils are getting more light for their money. Residents living in areas with LED street lighting will be pleased to find that the light does not shine into their homes and bedrooms.
LED Lights Are the Future
Many people are enjoying the benefits of LED lights in their homes, so it’s no surprise that LED lights are the way forward for many businesses and industries. At the moment, LED lighting is a large investment to make, but the paybacks occur quickly. It’s a safe and viable way for businesses and savvy councils to maintain lighting and save money.
