LED Lighting at Wimbledon - Bright Lights For a Bright Future
With the tennis season in full swing, crowds of spectators will be trying to make the most of the good weather to watch to their favourite player. Not everyone can make it in person, so watching it live on television is the next best option. Good lighting in the court is needed to help the players and spectators see everything. LED lights have recently been installed in the stadium to secure a brighter future for all tennis players and fans.
Wimbledon Upgrades to LED lighting
Wimbledon have now joined various industries and corporations who light their premises with LED lights, courtesy of an American firm. The lights were installed for the finals, and they certainly helped to illuminate the excellent tennis which was played in the final rounds of the event.
An estate director for the facilities has said that ‘The purpose of the project was to improve the quality of lighting for broadcasters, whilst simultaneously improving the functionality of the lighting as part of the roof operation’. The new LED’s offer 5700K, with a CRI of 90. This allows for a vertical illumination of 1500 lx on average, and a horizontal illumination of 3000 lx, although the former is subject to the positions of the cameras which are recording the games. The modifications came as part of plans to add LED lighting to stadiums across the country, and it’s aimed primarily at top level sporting events. So far Arsenal, Chelsea and Hull City have made the jump across to LED lights, which shows how popular it is.
LED Lights Proving As Popular As Tennis
Of course, it’s not difficult to figure out why LED lighting is so very popular. The concept of lighting which is brighter than the regular filament bulbs is appealing enough. When you factor in things like the fact it produces much less heat energy, or that there isn’t as much light radiation produced, then you have a lighting solution which is both efficient and also better from a health perspective. As well as this, LED bulbs have a much longer lifespan than their regular filament counterparts. This means that they can be easily installed and left for long periods of time, which is much more preferable when it’s a big open stadium which caters for thousands of people whenever a game is on.
Overall, the transition from the previous lighting solution to a new LED based lighting system is one which was crucial to making sure that the tennis matches were well lit and easy to see. The brighter LED bulbs are a more efficient way to provide light for bigger places like stadiums and arenas, and their longer lifespan makes them a more practical and cost effective solution. The LED light is beginning to become commonplace within stadiums which offer top level sporting events, such as football, tennis and even rugby in some places, and is important for ensuring that both the fans can see all the action which is going on, and that the players can play without any issues with regards to sight. The LED lighting system can provide that, and also not put out as much heat energy or as much light radiation.
