LED Lighting - What Their Lifespan Means For The Future

There’s no doubt that LED bulbs are powerful. They shine brightly without any signs of stopping and can also be great for people to use for their commercial premises, be it a warehouse, a shop or any other kind of space. But it is their lifespan which is particularly impressive. LED’s can go on for years without failing and giving out, and it is this lifespan which may, in fact, change the way people look at designing new products.

What Do We Mean?

We appreciate that this all sounds somewhat cryptic, so let’s try and break it down. Filament bulbs have a finite lifespan. They don’t last forever, and this makes them a pain in the minds of many business owners. People think in shorter lifespans - how long will the bulbs last before they need to be replaced, how long will the rest of the technology in the premises last in comparison to that?

LEDs have changed up the field, however. No longer are people thinking in terms of a year, if that. People are thinking in the long term; they’re considering a lifespan which isn’t like bulb durations of the past. They’re thinking about long-term solutions to common problems, and coming up with new and innovative ideas.

This will, of course, start to lead to developments and progress. The shift from the temporary thinking into a new one may inspire changes in how we look at problems. A sustainable and reliable lighting source was a problem once, so we created LEDs to solve that issue. There's a hope that the mindset of permanence and sustainability will work its way into more ideas. People will start to try and create components and tools for the commercial world which last longer, like batteries or electronic devices. The transition from items we can use and ditch when it suits us to items which are built to last and be replaced should hopefully arrive quite soon on a large scale.

Overall, the lifespan of LED’s has changed the thinking of a lot of people. In the past, there was a poor mentality in the minds of a lot of businesses. They used the resources they needed and disposed of them once they were done. Besides not being economically viable, it was also a very poor way to sustain a building environmentally. The good thing about LED’s is that they’re not so quick to burn out. This means that they can last longer than the ordinary bulbs, which helps to promote a more sustainable way of thinking. If bulbs can last that long, why not batteries? It’s this kind of thinking which starts innovation - people begin to come up with new ideas and new ways to move forward. We hope that LEDs have inspired a new sense of innovation, and a desire to improve the existing process. Hopefully, we should begin to see a change in the way that these kinds of things are designed, and more products being created that are more long-lasting.
