LED’s VS Filament Bulbs - A Comparison
You may hate them or you may love them, but the truth of the matter is that these two types of bulbs are the heavyweights of the lighting world. One of them once reigned supreme, until the newer technology stepped up to challenge the king. Modern bulbs outclass filament bulbs, but it's not always clear how the two stack up. To try and get an honest comparison, we’re going to be looking at how each bulb performs in various key factors, to see who’s really the best bulb in town.
Lifespan
One of the essential characteristics of a light is how long they'll last, regarding lifespan. This will determine which of the two is selected by a company because the longer lifespan equates to the lower cost. Filament bulbs sadly fall short in this area. Their lifespan of a year at best is beaten by the average LED lifespan of a decade. For nearly any kind of company, the idea of a bulb lasting a whole decade is just too promising to ignore. Plus, filaments are hindered by the problem of slowly getting dimmer and dimmer, until they reach a point where they stop being of any use at all. While it is true that LED’s will get dimmer, they're not at the same risk.
Environmental Benefits
Another factor which will play a big part in the minds of a lot of different companies when selecting their lightbulb is the environmental concerns. Every kind of lightbulb produces a different kind of waste energy - it might be heat or sound or a combination of the two. Obviously, this waste energy will require more electricity to keep the light bulb switched on, and thus means that there’s potentially more damage being done to the environment. Filament Bulbs expend more in the way of waste energy than LED bulbs do, which make them more of a liability and less of a smart choice. In contrast, the LED bulb is designed with more modern technology, which means that it is much more energy efficient, releasing barely any of the heat or sound energy which is wasted, making it a much better bulb for preserving the environment.
The Verdict
The heated completion between these two titans has come to an end. The results were what we were all mostly expecting, with LED’s taking the win without any problems. There are not many filament bulbs around which can hold a candle to LED bulbs, which is good for people have chosen them. LED bulbs have proven time and again that they are the best possible way to light a commercial premise, whether it is a warehouse, a shop or an office space. When measuring them against key factors, it is obvious that LED’s have taken the lead in many ways. We all want to have the best possible bulbs in our areas because it’s a question of cost and lowering the budget. This is where LED genuinely shines, because they’ve been designed to be better, and that’s something they accomplish.
